I’m really good at jumping from one rut to another. I have reading, photography, and craft ruts often spurred on by my surfing rut. I can often walk in my reading and craft ruts at the same time as I quite enjoy audiobooks as well. Unfortunately there are no laundry, dishes, or clean house ruts. I guess those are the high points between ruts but it’s just so hard to stay up there.

I fell into my reading rut a week or so ago and have read quite a few books. Like I said, rut, all consuming and really hard to get out. Austenland got me in the mood for something set in regency England. After doing some searching on Goodreads, I discovered Sarah M. Eden’s regency period books and devoured a few of them. They were all really good and clean. I also browsed through my “to read” list and decided to read Flicker by Kaye Thornbrugh. I found it par for its genre but nothing spectacular.

I also read Warm Bodies by Isaac Marion in preparation to see the movie which we went to last Friday. It was an enjoyable book. The f-bomb is dropped frequently in the book and once in the movie but all were fun. I’m sure I’ll read the sequel when it comes out.

Finally I decided to go through my “can hardly wait” list on Goodreads to see if anything has recently been released. Boundless by Cynthia Hand jumped out at me. I so enjoyed the first two, partly because they are set in Jackson, Wyoming, which is close to where I grew up and partly for the story. It hoovered me right in. By the climax of the book I was sobbing. I found it just so heartbreaking and ultimately frustrating. I really wish now that I had gone back and reread the two previous books, Unearthly and Hallowed. There’s apparently also a novella set just before this one begins that I missed. I was torn and quite disquieted by the ending. I don’t remember which of the two guys I preferred after the first two books, Christian or Tucker, but I loved them both when I finished this final book and it broke my heart that one of them had to lose in the battle for Clara’s heart. I really hope that Ms. Hand sees fit to write a spin off story for the one left behind to satisfy my grieving heart.

Now that I got that out of my system I guess I should climb up on that laundry ridge that is really starting to look more like a mountain. Think I can repel back down when I’m done?
